Menus.

out4 generates a menu page and a downloadable PDF for every claimed restaurant. Pick a cadence (layout) in the Studio and your menu inherits the visual register of your restaurant page — newsprint, photo-led, hazard-bar, cassette, or one of six others.

Overview

One menu, three surfaces.

The same menu data renders three ways.

  • Public menu page /r/<slug>/menu. The web version of your menu, mobile-friendly, share-card-ready.
  • PDF download /r/<slug>/menu/pdf. Print-optimized; lays out cleanly on letter / A4.
  • Share cards — menu-item share cards generated from individual items, so you can post a specific dish to Instagram with one tap. See Happy hour + specials for the menu-item card variant.

Add

Filling in your menu.

The menu lives in the restaurant Studio under a Menu tab.

  1. 1
Open /studio/restaurant/<slug>. Switch to the Menu tab.
  2. 2
Add sections (Starters, Mains, Desserts, Wine list, etc.). Drag to reorder.
  3. 3
Add items to each section: name, price, description, optional dietary flags (vegan, gluten-free, contains nuts), and an optional photo. Photos are used for the menu-item share card variant.
  4. 4
Save. The public menu page + PDF re-render immediately.

Tip

You can mark an item as hidden to keep it on the menu data but off the published version. Useful for seasonal items you'll bring back later.

Cadences

9 menu layouts, mirroring the artist EPK.

Same library of cadences that powers artist press pages, but tuned for menu content. Each cadence is compositionally distinct — not a color theme.

9 PDF layouts (one per cadence)

press-sheet
gradient-statement
photo-led
hazard-spec
jcard-sleeve
deep-field
biomimetic
soft-essay
console-spec
  • press-sheet — Catalog masthead, italic hero, 2-column body, dashed item-row dividers. Classic broadsheet feel.
  • gradient-statement — Oversized hero, marker-strike accent, 4-cell stat row, elevated translucent dish cards.
  • photo-led — Full-bleed hero photo, cream-paper body panel, photo-dominant item rows. Best for restaurants with great food photography.
  • hazard-spec — 12pt hazard-stripe band, rebar grid backdrop. Reads industrial / pop-up / DIY.
  • jcard-sleeve — Vertical mono spine, B-SIDE photo card, numbered tracklist item rows. Cassette J-card feel.
  • deep-field — Star-field SVG backdrop, RA/DEC coord masthead, per-item coordinates. Cosmic.
  • biomimetic — Hyphae SVG, network-node band, alternating-blob section surfaces.
  • soft-essay — Narrow 640px column, centered italic hero, prose-style menu rendering. Best for farm-to-table / story-driven menus.
  • console-spec — Surface status bar with BPM readout, peak-meter gauge bars. Studio / control-room aesthetic.

PDF

The downloadable menu PDF.

Generated at /r/<slug>/menu/pdf. Same cadence, same content, print-optimized.

The PDF is generated on every page load, so you never have a stale copy. Update a price in the Studio, and the next PDF download has the new price.

Two practical uses:

  • Print and laminate for the table. Looks sharper than a typed menu on cardstock.
  • Link from your own site or socials. The PDF URL is stable, so you can put it in your Instagram bio without it 404-ing when you update.

One more step

The 9 cadences unlock with a subscription.

Every restaurant gets a clean default layout. A subscription unlocks the full cadence library plus the menu-item share-card variant. Free during launch — every cadence is open while we’re in early access.

We designed the cadences as a way to make every subscribed restaurant page feel distinctly its own. At launch scale (tens of thousands of pages), variety matters more than polish-of-one — two restaurants picking the same cadence should still feel like different rooms.

Note

The default menu still looks good
The default menu layout is intentionally clean and well- typeset — not a deliberately-uglier alternative to push you toward a subscription. It just doesn't offer the same per-cadence visual differentiation.
