Finding events.
out4's discovery is built to feel less like a search engine and more like asking a friend with good taste what's happening this weekend. Three surfaces: the search page, the discover map, and your personalized feed on the home tab.

Search
Filters cover the obvious axes.
The events index lives at /events. The filter rail covers the five things people actually filter by.
- Date — Today, This weekend, This week, Next 7 days, or a custom range. Defaults to "Today + onward".
- Category — Live music, Nightlife, Comedy, Workshops, Sports, etc. Pick one; events can only be in one category at a time.
- Genres — Multi-select. Genres are scoped to the category you picked (Hip-hop, House, Techno under Nightlife; Indie, Folk, Jazz under Live music).
- Price — Free only, Under $X, Any.
- Location — A city or a radius around your current position. See Location radius below.

The discover map shows everything nearby.
The 5th tab on the dashboard is a Mapbox-backed map with pins for every event in your area. Tap a pin to see the event card.
The map is the best surface for "I'm out tonight and want to find something nearby." It also surfaces venues you might not know exist — a pin cluster in a neighborhood you don't usually go to often reveals a small venue scene you can explore.
Filters apply
Set a date range, a category, or a price range on the search page, then switch to the map — the map respects the same filters. Useful for "Show me free outdoor events this weekend".
Clusters at high zoom
When you're zoomed out, the map clusters dense pin groups into a numbered circle. Tap a cluster to zoom into the area; it explodes into individual pins below a certain threshold.
Location
How we figure out where you are.
Three signals, in order. We pick the first one we can.
- You told us. If you set a default city in Settings, we use that.
- Browser geolocation. The first time you visit, we ask permission. If you allow, we use your current position to seed the radius. Denied? We fall back to the next signal.
- IP geolocation. A rough city-level guess from your IP. Worst case, but better than nothing.
Note
Saving
Save events you might go to.
The bookmark icon on any event card adds it to your saved list. We don't tell the promoter.
Saved events appear on your dashboard under Tickets (alongside any tickets you actually own). The saved set is private — no notifications to the event organizer, no public activity feed entry.
We'll also use it for two soft nudges:
- A reminder push the day before a saved event, in case you forgot you were interested.
- When a friend you follow saves the same event, we surface it on your home feed.

Tips
Four ways power users find good stuff.
If discovery feels stale, try one of these.
- Follow venues. The single biggest signal-to- noise boost. Following 5 venues you trust means every show they book lands on your home feed. Skip the genre filtering.
- Follow artists. Every show on their tour calendar pings you. Best signal for "am I going to miss them again?"
- Set genre defaults. The home feed respects your account-level genre interests (Settings → Interests). The more specific you are, the better the feed gets.
- Check the map on a Saturday afternoon. The map is the best surface for spontaneous discovery — pin density shows which neighborhoods have a scene tonight.
